The weekend starts early this week. Don’t miss Thursday’s Alive After 5’s 10th Annual Chili-Cook-Off on this very chilly evening to kick off the weekend a day early! And this week, there’s not just one, no, there’s two Chili Cook-Offs! Check the events list below for more information…

Remember, apart from these special events, there is also the weekly Farmers’ Market on Magnolia Square from 10am to 3pm and the ongoing initiative Downtown Sanford – Small World for your evening entertainment. And how about taking that very first stroll on the now completed Riverwalk Phase 2? I know I will 😉

chili10th Annual Chili Cook-Off

When: Thursday, January 8, 5pm-8pm

Where: Downtown Sanford

What: DON’T MISS OUT on Thursday night’s “10th Annual – Chili Cook-off” at our Alive After 5 street festival in Historic Downtown Sanford, from 5-8pm! Spice it up with Chili and cool it down with some frosty Craft Beers. If Chili isn’t your “thang”, come fill your belly with tasty delights from local restaurants and food trucks. Also, enjoy LIVE MUSIC throughout, including Barn Diva Lynn and her boot scootin’ dancers. Check off an item on your bucket list by taking a ride on our mechanical bull for just $5. And wander through Artist Alley to find unique items by local artists. So many wonderful things to do in Sanford……”After 5″!

Admission: $7 to sample all the wonderful chili and more!

chili-2Side Note: While you’re at it, why not enjoy some of the city’s finest chili made by Chef Rich from Marco Dino’s and Buster’s Bistro’s Harry Graham. They have met up and decided to collaborate on a delicious Wild Boar chili with home made corn bread to go with the theme for Thursday’s Alive After 5 to help warm everyone up. Dinner will be served starting at 6:30pm at Buster’s (412 S Sanford Ave)

Birds at the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford FLNational Bird Day

When: Saturday, January 10, 10am-3pm

Where: Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens, 3755 U.S. 17, Sanford, FL

What: Bring the whole family for a fun filled day celebrating birds! Learn all about our feathery friends while enjoying fun and educational activities games, crafts and keeper chats.

Admission: The event is included in general Zoo admission; additional fees may apply for certain activities.

When: Saturday, January 10, 11am-2pm

Where: Seminole Harley Davidson, 620 Hickman Circle, Sanford FL

What: A fun chili cook-off, fun for the whole family! Celebrity judging starts at 11am. Grand prize awarded at 1pm

Admission: Sample chili $5/person
