Open the doors to Palate Cafe and you are sure to be overwhelmed with the same warmth that you may expect when visiting an old friend. As I took a seat and sat across from two of the owners of Palate, Tina and Katrina (Mother and Daughter) they quickly filled me in on the details of the cafe. You’ll notice in the photos below that all of the interior furniture ( Tables, Benches, The Bar, The Beautiful wall that holds the T.V.) are all made from pallets! Family and friends came to help every weekend for two months to paint, build and create all of the cozy decor that you see when you step inside of Palate. By the looks of it you’d think that this is something that they have all done in the past, but the girls assured me that this was a first for all of them and in the end I think they even surprised themselves!

With all of that being said it’s easy to see how the cafe got its name. Palate is not only referring to the palate of your mouth, but is also referring to the awesome pallets that make up the interior furniture of the cafe (Hence the little Pallet symbol on the logo).
It was Tina who mentioned how much she loved the small town of Sanford and how it reminded her so much of the small town she grew up in. Palate wants to extend that small town feeling in not only welcoming everyone into their little cafe, but by extending that warm fuzzy feeling we all get from helping others. The family Cafe will have a small corner for their handmade jewelry. This is no ordinary jewelry though, this is jewelry with a purpose and raising awareness for Human Trafficking. All of the necklaces are made out of dominoes as they would like to have a domino effect on those around them. And I mean really, who doesn’t want to create that in their community?
All in all I think this will soon be a favorite little spot for lots of visitors, please be sure to stop in on September 22nd for their soft opening and then mark your calendar for the GRAND OPENING on October 17th … See you all there!
