How does one go from auctioning off large businesses, and even an island, to owning a woodworking shop in Sanford? Only one man I know can answer that. Meet Michael Nall, the owner and craftsman of Park & Seventh Woodwork.

After seeing Mike’s beautiful handiwork at Sanford Brewing Co. I just had to meet this incredible local. I stepped up to the doors of Park & Seventh and was greeted by both Michael and his shop cat, Chester.

When you step into Mike’s workshop you are met with the sweet aroma of freshly cut wood – a project in the making. The Park & Seventh shop is nothing over the top; stacks of wood line the walls and woodworking tools fill a majority of the larger space, but the pieces that Michael creates are anything but dull. Every creation that comes out of Park & Seventh is noticeably done with hard labor and a love for the craft. Mike’s precision in his work might have something to do with his background in serving in the Marine Corps for 10 years, where he learned to work hard and stay focused; his works gleams with both qualities.

Mike worked as an auctioneer (award winning auctioneer to be exact) and as mentioned above he auctioned off some pretty hefty items (or places, in his case) as well as antiques, which is where his love of craftsmanship began. But it wasn’t until his wife, Amanda, eyed a beautiful farmhouse table that he thought “I can do that”, and boy did he do it! With simple tools found in almost any man’s garage, Mike succeeded his goal of building his wife’s dream farmhouse table and the start of a new passion was born.

While both Mike and Amanda visited Sanford often, they eventually fell in love with a downtown Sanford home and now own a home on Park Avenue and 7th Avenue… a name was born for the very place that I am writing about today. As owner of Park and Seventh Woodworking Mike is making a statement in our downtown area. If you’ve eaten dinner at The District or stopped to get a drink at Sanford Brewing Co., Mr. Z’s, Deviant Wolfe Brewing, or are anticipating and stalking the opening of Tuffy’s Bottle Shop & Lounge then chances are, you’ve seen Mike’s work without even realizing it.

I imagine that as Sanford grows so will Park & Seventh, which means you’re likely to catch a glimpse of Mike working and if you do be sure to thank him for making our beloved Sanford businesses just that more beautiful!
