Movie Classics: The Day The Earth Stood Still

What: Washington, D.C., is thrown into a panic when an extraterrestrial spacecraft lands near the White House. Out steps Klaatu, a soft-spoken interplanetary traveler, and his laser spewing robot bodyguard, Gort. An overzealous soldier wounds Klaatu. Klaatu announces he has a message of the gravest importance for all humankind, which he will deliver only when the leaders of all nations agree to meet with him. Given world politics in 1951, Klaatu’s demands are denied and he is ordered to remain in the hospital. Klaatu escapes, taking refuge in a boarding house, where he poses as Mr. Carpenter (one of many parallels between Klaatu and Christ). He gains the confidence of a widow and her son, Bobby. Klaatu seeks “the smartest man in the world”, a Dr. Barnhardt. Then, at 12 o’clock, Klaatu causes the world to “stand still” — he shuts down all electrical power worldwide, with the exception of essentials like hospitals and planes in flight.

Haunted Tours

What: On Friday, October 25th – Conduct your own Ghost Hunt in the dark! Use our equipment, or bring your own and see if you can detect any paranormal activity in our historic buildings.
On Saturday, October 26th – Night-time tours of the haunted museum! Our guides are well-versed in the many strange events which have occurred within these haunted halls. There will also be games, activities, and prizes in the back courtyard sponsored by the Ladies 327 Supper Club!
We will open up the dark, dank basement for this special event. Costumes welcome, there will be tricks and treats!

Night of Fright: Scary Ghost Stories with Country Joe Rosier

What: Join master storyteller “Country Joe” Rosier at his manor house gazebo for an evening of spooky ghost stories told under a starlit night. This show is a live theatrical performance and includes both visual and sound effects.
Admission: $6 for adults, $4 for K-12 and non-Seminole State students and seniors 55+, Seminole State students, faculty, and staff will receive free admission. Tickets can be purchased 15 minutes prior to showtime at the door. There are no reservations and we only accept cash or check as payment.

NEW SHOW-Skies of the Dead at Sanford Planetarium

Hallowine! Wine Scavenger Hunt

As you know Luisa’s Cellar has a lot of square footage and makes it perfect for a scavenger hunt for adults just in time for Halloween!
There will be 5 wine stations set up throughout the property (this includes the second floor), with each station having 2 or more wines (nicely disguised of course). One wine will be an inexpensive trick wine, while the other will be a more expensive treat wine.
Participating guests will be able to sample both wines and then will choose which wine is the trick wine and which one is the treat wine. Prizes will be awarded if you call right the trick or treat. We will be collecting your notes at 5:50pm. Prizes will be awarded if you call right the trick or treat.

On a wild and rain-swept late-November evening, somewhere at an empty stretch of road outside Ohio’s merry Denton, the blissfully-affianced, prudish, and boringly innocent young pair of Brad Majors and Janet Weiss find themselves stranded on their way to visit an ex-tutor.
Instead, the couple will inadvertently unearth the cross-dressing Dr Frank-N-Furter’s spooky lair of inexhaustible oddities, just in time to partake in the out-of-this-world mad scientist’s proud unveiling of his latest, delightfully extravagant, and most daring creation–the ultimate male and the perfect sex symbol: the flaxen-haired, Rocky Horror.
