Thank you so much to everyone who left their suggestion for their favorite charity in Sanford. As I mentioned briefly on the Sanford365 Facebook page yesterday, I needed your suggestions to pick a selection of charities in Sanford so that I can donate $500 to that charity. It might be even more, but at this point I haven’t found out either how much I will be able to donate (see explanation below!).
Here’s the background story about the Sanford365 donation:
I recently participated in the video contest “How I positively impact the community as a Realtor” by the Orlando Regional Realtor Association (ORRA). Of course, my video was all about Sanford365.com and how my goal on this blog is to promote Sanford to the rest of the world, showing everyone how beautiful our little town is and ultimately what a desirable place to live it is.
I was selected as one of the 3 finalists in the competition. So this past week, all of Orlando’s Realtors got to cast their vote for their favorite video and cause. Voting has closed now and I already know that I won $500 to donate to the charity of my choice (if I place 2nd or 1st the amount will be raised to $1,500 or $3,000 respectively). Obviously, I want to pick a charity in Sanford, since that’s what I’m all about (besides real estate). Since I could not make up my mind about who to pick I figured, what better way to choose than letting the community itself (YOU!) decide!
So without further ado, here are the 4 charities I picked based on your suggestions. Now please vote for your favorite and let everyone know about the voting going on here. Voting starts today, 3/5/2013 at 5:00pm and ends tomorrow 3/6/2013 at 9:00pm. I am going to post the results before 10:00pm on the Sanford365 facebook page!
Thanks so much for participating! I wish I could give each of these charities a donation right now, but I will definitely remember them for future donations.
This poll is now closed! Thank you vor your vote!

I’ve sat here and refreshed this page and watched harvest time gain more than 100 votes in 10 mins. Someone isn’t playing fair.
Hi Susan,
Thanks for your comment. I have to trust that everyone was playing fair and taking this poll serious. I was using a program for the poll and I am sure that if someone wanted to hack it or sabotage it, would probably be possible (unfortunately I am not a tech person so I wouldn’t know how). I truly hope everyone was honest here!
Yes, I also thing something is up. SANFORD SEMINOLE HS was winning by @ 100ish right before the deadline and within the last minutes, Harvest Time got enough to win. Hmmmm??
Hi Erin,
I looked further into this and it seems like the poll program was blocking cookies but not IP adresses and someone explained to me that by disabling cookies the software could have been potentially taken advantage of. I had no idea this was at all possible, I thought it was safe. Anyway, I truly hope everyone played fair because I have no way of finding out what exactly happened, I can only trust that everyone was taking this as serious as I was! In the end though this is all about helping Sanford and those living in our community so the donation will reach deserving people here in Sanford no matter who won. Next time I might do the poll on facebook. My contact told me that would be a “safer” way of doing it. However with facebook’s rules constantly changing I was a bit scared of holding some type of contest there… Thanks though for bringing this to my attention!!
Thank you for making an effort for the charities in our city. I respect you for trying to let the public be involved. It seems there has been some controversy and that is horrible. I would hope there would not be any dishonesty since this is about philanthropy. These are all legitimate charities and it is good that you tried to help. Thank you for trying to make a difference.
