The whole town is buzzing about Shantell’s so, of course, I had to finally check out her restaurant. I first met Shantell when I threw Jose’s 40th birthday bash at La Sirena Gorda. Apart form being an excellent chef she is also a great singer and entertainer and she provided Karaoke the night of the party. After the party she fixed chicken and waffles for some of the guests and it was simply delicious. Then, at the Holiday Tour of Homes, Shantell was gracious enough to give us one of her amazing spice mixes and I have been using it for seasoning (especially for seafood) with great success.
To be honest, going into the restaurant I had little doubt that I would love it, and, in fact, it was fantastic! I have to say, I am not typically someone who eats fried, Southern style food, and the idea of combining waffles, chicken and syrup seemed rather awkward when I first heard about it. Little did I know what I was missing… But don’t take my word for it, go and eat at Shantell’s and experience some of the best Southern style cuisine in town. You won’t regret it 😉
And here’s one last special thing about Shantell’s Cafe: Shantell’s is open until 4am Thursday through Saturday, so if you’re craving some savory food after being out in downtown Sanford (and you know you will) head over to Sanford Avenue for a memorable ending of your night!
