Spring Break Camp at the Zoo
March 13-17, 2017 & March 20-24, 2017 (before and after care available for $5)
The zoo will keep your kiddos busy and it’s one of our favorite places to go. Their daily Spring Break Camp offers special activities and animal encounters but even a simple train ride (and for that one you don’t have to even buy a day pass or be an annual pass owner) will put a smile on my boys’ face every time. Another advantage is that the splash pad here is already on every day. And while requiring a higher budget, Zoom Air’s Zip Lining for kids just outside the zoo makes for an even bigger adventure! This year’s Spring Break Camp is called “Passport to Adventure”. Discover some of histories mysteries at the Zoo as we set out on an exciting expedition into the past. Meet a bald eagle up close to learn the important role our nation’s symbol has played in our history. Who was first in space, humans or animals? Which spotted cat has been used by Pharaohs, royalty and emperors as a symbol of nobility? It’s a journey you won’t forget!

Kids Yoga
Sunday, March 19 & 26 from 2-3pm
Kids Yoga is a new event taking place every Sunday at The Center of Wellness downtown. Since there will be two instances of this weekly fun kids activity we wanted to list it here and make you aware of it.
Yoga with Miss Holly is a fun yoga program designed just for kids ages 3-10! Each class lasts 45 minutes and will include a yoga sequence accompanied by songs, games, stories, and more.
Sequences are comprised of Five Parts: Stretching, Strength Postures, Balancing poses, Exercises in Concentration, and Relaxation.

Easter Fun Day at Seminole Towne Center
March 19 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Come out for an exciting day with the bunny. There will be face painting, an Easter egg hunt, crafts, and more! Free.

Family Movie Night: Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events
Three children – Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire – are left orphaned when their house burns down, with their parents in it, in mysterious circumstances. They are left in the custody of a distant relative, Count Olaf (played by Jim Carrey). It is soon apparent that Count Olaf only cares about the children for their large inheritance.

Night Hike at the Zoo
Saturday, March 25 7:30pm-10:30pm
Hurry because this popular event fills up quickly and registration closes already on March 17th! Kids 5 years and older get to go on an exciting night hike through the zoo! This nocturnal adventure includes a guided flashlight tour and various animal encounters! What a great start into spring break!!

Seminole County Fair
Starts Friday March 24 (through April 1)
The kids will love a visit to the annual Seminole County Fair in Sanford! Lots of fun rides to choose from and many treats to enjoy! Don’t miss it 😉
Breakfast with Bunny
March 25, 9am-10am
Seminole Towne Center Mall, 200 Towne Center Cir, Sanford, FL
Mingle with the Bunny while eating a great breakfast from Chick-fil-A! Tickets can be purchased from the Guest Service Booth or Mall Office beginning 3/1. Tickets are $3 per person. Afterwards follow the bunny down to the Easter set to get a special keepsake photo. (Package prices vary) Click here to RSVP for the event.
Kids Classics in Sanford
Apart from these events, there are always some Sanford kids classics:
- Walking/biking on the Riverwalk
- Feeding the ducks at the pond by the senior center
- Play at Park on Park: the shadow of beautiful oak trees makes this the most idyllic playground in town and even on hotter days pretty bearable (you’d be surprised)
- A visit at Ft. Mellon Park playground and (currently, i.e. March, only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, $2) Ft Mellon Park Splash Pad: can’t beat playing on this huge playground and then cooling off on the splash pad.
- Sanford Derby Park
Racing down the hill at Sanford’s Derby Park is so much fun! We love to bring the kids’ “vehicles” aka tricycle, bike and Plasma car with us and have them race all they want. After that, the Derby Park playground is another favorite of mine because it is not close to the road and offers a good variety. Here is a video of a recent visit at Sanford’s Derby Park Playground (kids racing and a minor accident included). - A visit at White’s Red Hill Groves to pick fresh fruit and veggies.
- Become a part of the growing group Sanford Rocks, collect, decorate and hide your rocks around Sanford and bring a smile to someone. Be sure to become a part of the Facebook group as some people post when they find rocks and you might just see one of yours as well as finding out when the next painting party will be!
Things to do with the kids on rainy days
How about a visit at the Seminole Towne Center mall so the kids can let out all their energy in the play area or ride train (I have to admit though, the $4 price is a bit steep)? Have you tried the stuffed ride-on animals in the center court? Definitely a treat after a shopping trip gone well…
Or if your kids are a bit older you could try a visit at the Sanford Museum (520 E First Street) to teach them a bit of Sanford’s history. You won’t be disappointed!
Last but not least, visit the Sanford Library (150 N Palmetto Avenue)! They have a great selection of children’s books and my boys’ love taking home new books each time we go! In addition to that, the library offers a fun story time, divided by age groups. The dates during Spring Break are as follows:
- Monday, March 20th at 6pm: Family Movie Night, Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events
- Wednesday, March 22 at 5pm Teen Dungeons & Dragons: Join us for D&D on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. All levels welcome. If you’ve never played, out expert teen coaches will teach you. For Middle and High School students only.
- Saturday, March 25 at 12:30pm: Teen Game Changers Club: Game Changers meets weekly. Get together with your friends and challenge each other to fun board games and role playing! Open to Middle and High School students! Free. No registration required.
