Witches, Nuns and Jurors – 3 Upcoming Plays in Sanford
I never thought I would ever write this, but I am currently overwhelmed by the choices we have when it comes to plays and musicals in Sanford – and that is a good thing! Starting this weekend we will be spoiled with 3 great musicals/plays – try to catch at least one of them and support the local arts so we can have even more of it in the future 😉
Update on October 2, 2014:
I just came across this great dinner special offered by The Corner Cafe… I have had their dinner specials before and can tell you, they were fantastic! The Corner Cafe is one of my favorite dining spots in Sanford 🙂
1. The Wizard of Oz (Musical by L. Frank Baum, RSC Version)
Where: Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center, 203 S Magnolia Ave, Sanford, FL 32771
When: Sep. 26 and 27, Oct. 3 and 4 at 7:30pm – Sep. 28 and Oct. 5 at 3pm – Oct. 4 at 2pm
What: The Wizard of Oz The WDPAC Repertory Company presents the Wizard of Oz (RSC Version). Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination. Includes the songs you love like “Over The Rainbow,” “Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead),” “If I Only Had A Brain,” ‘We’re Off To See The Wizard (Follow The Yellow Brick Road),” “If I Were King Of The Forest” and many more.

2. Nunsense (Musical Comedy by Dan Goggin)

When: Oct. 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 5 and 12 at 2 p.m.
What: When the convent cook accidentally kills 52 nuns with food poisoning, the Little Sisters of Hoboken hold a variety show to raise money for funeral services. Taking over a local middle school auditorium, the Sisters display an array of talents and performances in this wacky, irreverent comic musical. “Nunsense” has been translated into 21 languages and performed more than 5,000 times worldwide.
Tickets: Individual tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and non-Seminole State students; and FREE for faculty, staff and currently-enrolled Seminole State students. Click here for ticket and subscription information.
3. 12 Angry Jurors (Play by Reginald Rose)
Where: The Princess Theater in Sanford, 115 West 1st Street, Sanford, FL 32771
When: Oct. 2, 9, 16 at 7pm – Oct. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18 at 8pm – Oct. 5, 12, 19 at 2pm
What: A 19-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. “He doesn’t stand a chance,” mutters the guard as the 12 jurors are taken into the bleak jury room. It looks like an open-and-shut case—until one of the jurors begins opening the others’ eyes to the facts. But it is personal for each juror, with each juror revealing his or her own character as the various testimonies are re-examined, the murder is re-enacted and a new murder threat is born before their eyes! Tempers get short, arguments grow heated, and the jurors become angry. Our modern retelling will become a battle of the sexes versus the traditional staging using all men.
PS: Rumor has is Les Miserables, one of my favorite musicals ever, will be coming to Sanford in early March 2015, so as usual, stay tuned and wait as I break the news on Sanford365 on Facebook.
