The old Colony Theater is one of my favorite buildings in Winter Park. This gorgeous building is only hard to miss if you drive or walk down Park Avenue (329 S. Park Avenue). The theater was an active cinema from 1933 to 1975. It had to close due to the competition of the larger chain movie complexes. That is always a sad development and happens far too often. I remember it happening in my home town as well, to the point that there are only large movie theater chains left. Call it nostalgia but to this day I still love the quaint, somewhat romantic atmosphere of small traditional movie theaters.
If you are a fan of smaller movie theaters and international/independent movies I can highly recommend the Enzian Theater in Winter Park. I will make sure to post more about the Enzian and upcoming Blog posts, for now you can find more info by following the link to their web site and weekly schedule.
These days the old Colony theater is home to a Pottery Barn store.
