Valentine’s Day may be over, but trust me, there are still plenty of things to do in Sanford this weekend with your sweetheart! Besides, Historic Downtown Sanford is already one of the most romantic spots in Central Florida as it is…

Shuffleboard court at the monthly Sanford Shuffle event in Sanford, FL

Have some fun and meet new and old friends at The Sanford Shuffle!

So let’s talk weekend events and dive right in! It’s the third Friday of the month which means: The Sanford Shuffle will be hosting their monthly meetup – whether you are looking for a just for fun type of match or are into competing, there’s something here for everyone, so bring your own (adult) beverages to the court and get shuffling! By the way, first timers are always welcome!! You will get the rules in no time!

Starting this month, the friendly folks at The Sullivan will be co-sponsoring The Sanford Shuffle. What that means? Well, from now on there will be a plaque at the bar listing all the monthly, quarterly and yearly winners and these winners get to have their own trophy celebration and a $25 bar tab at the popular Irish pub downtown.

Also on Friday night is the Valentine’s Dance and Dessert at the Sanford Woman’s Club! This is the perfect complement for an evening of #sanfording: have dinner/drinks at your favorite establishment of the night and then head on over for dessert (and to dance off those calories) at this dance with live music from Vivacity Music playing favorites from the 30s & 40s. This event is not limited to just couples so feel free to bring your girlfriends for a belated Galentine’s Day outing or bring your family and friends.

As some of you may know, Theater West End’s West Side Story is sold out for the weekend (limited tickets still available for Monday, so hurry!!), however, there’s another play in town, and that is “Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde”.

Saturday mornings stand for Sanford Farmers Market but this week you can check out a unique fair at Seminole State College! To be honest, I am completely intrigued by the theme: it’s a Fix It Up! Art & Repair Fair you guys! This community arts event is all about sustainable consumption and about finding creative opportunities for reuse and repair. There will be panel discussions, workshops and lectures all around the topic as well as a student recycled arts show and clothing swap! Simply bring in your used clothes and trade them in for “new to you” styles. My favorite part: a button sewing station! Bring in any items that are missing a button and will be sewn back on for you right there. I might have few dozen items (did I ever mention that I was “blessed” with two left thumbs?)!

Saturday’s highlight is without a doubt the 5th Annual Mardi Gras Street Party! Catch some beads at the parade starting at 4pm on 6th Street and Sanford Avenue and watch participants sashay down to West End Trading Company. Of course there will be live music, food trucks, craft beers and cocktails. While there, don’t forget to also check out the monthly Sanford Art Walk. For example see Michael Banks’ art as he returns to Historic Downtown Sanford for the premiere of a new collection of artwork at Jeanine Taylor Folk Art gallery. Or see John “Cornbread” Anderson making a rare appearance at the same gallery for the opening reception of his new collection of art consisting of his popular signature stylized woodland creatures.

Since last Saturday was really rainy, 119 French will have a reboot of their Grand Opening, and this time the weather gods seem to be kind (in case you haven’t checked yet, the weather this weekend promises to be marvelous, as in high 70s) so it should be the perfect night to hang out on their gorgeous patio and enjoy drinks, appetizers, music and games.

The Atlantic City Boys will be performing at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center. You can expect an exciting mix of world class vocals and interactive comedy -featuring the rock-n-roll harmonies of the Beach Boys, Drifters, the BeeGees, and of course, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Last but not least, you don’t want to miss the highly anticipated 80s vs. 90s Valentine’s Prom Party at Luisa’s Cellar! DJ MR. E will be spinning your favorite 80s and 90s tunes on the dance floor! Cash prizes will be given to the best outfits/couples so put on your best 80s or 90s prom gear for a fun evening!

Sunday it’s finally time for the debut of The Sanford Indie Market at Tuffy’s Bottle Shop and Lounge! At this curated show you will find vintage, art as well as handcrafted and boutique vendors. Of course, there will also be food, live music and drinks!

Last but not least, the Sanford Jazz Ensemble will be performing with Miss Jacqueline Jones and Ron Stark in honor of Black History Month.
