Haunted House Luminary WorkshopHalloween Boo-Tique
When: Saturday September 26th 10am-3pm
Where: Jeanine Taylor Folk Art 211 E 1st St. Sanford, FL 32771
Join us for an eerie workshop to create a Victorian era haunted house luminary that’s sure to get you in the mood for All Hallows Eve! Julie Latayan brings together her love for Halloween and her enthusiastic teaching style to create an exciting seasonal ceramic workshop.
Julie will guide participants as they create a slab based haunted house equipped with a removable roof, big enough to fit an LED tea candle that gives off a ghoulish glow. Working with paper clay allows participants a great amount of freedom and yields striking results. All work will be available for pick up the following week after Julie has time to fire the sculptures.
Students must bring their own lunch or dine out at one of the restaurants in walking distance from the gallery. This event also coincides with Sanford’s weekly farmers market which usually has a nice selection of food vendors.
Space is extremely limited therefore all reservations must be booked and paid for in advance.
About the teacher: A self-taught artist, Julie began her career as a painter and muralist. Her love of art and wish to share her talents led her to teach high school art for five years, and later open her own gallery/studio. When Julie is not exhibiting at art fairs or filling gallery orders, she now teaches sculpting workshops for adults and children. She is an accomplished carpenter, handyman, wife, and mom.
Safety precautions:
– We require all students to wear a mask.
– Students will be seated at their own six-foot table, located at a safe distance away from others.
– If you have been sick or you have been in contact with a sick person, we ask that you stay home.

Halloween Boo-Tique
When: Saturday October 3rd 4pm-8pm
Where: Jeanine Taylor Folk Art 211 E 1st St. Sanford, FL 32771
What: Despite living in a twilight zone episode all year long, Jeanine Taylor Folk Art is excited to announce our annual Halloween Boo-Tique! Halloween is NOT canceled yet and we are looking forward to unveiling a new collection of spooky delights from our enchanting group of participating artists.
—————————-
Few among the artists in Jeanine Taylor’s orbit turn out the haunts like those featured in her upcoming Halloween Boo-tique. The artist roster will feature the likes of Melissa Menzer, Darlene Allen, Kerry Schmidt, Anthony Pack and Jane Theis. Each artist possesses an undying thirst for all things strange and unusual!
The festivities will begin promptly at 4pm on October 3rd. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to get their choice pick of art. A sampling of seasonal of hors d’oeuvres and signature cocktails hand selected by Jeanine Taylor will be complimentary to all attendees.
MELISSA MENZER:
For Melissa Menzer there is no better muse than vintage sepia toned photographs of long forgotten relatives found in the bargain bins of Florida’s roadside flea markets. Her wry quirk can be attributed to her parents who were artists and antique dealers in the Washington DC area. Menzer utilizes varied materials from cabinet card photographs to vintage silverware. Orlando culture seekers may remember Menzer’s featured bejeweled birds at the Mennello Museum of Art under Frank Holt’s reign.
DARLENE ALLEN:
Darlene Allen possesses a love for Jim Henson, misfit toys and mohair. Her title as a Master Bearmaker is well earned and very apparent. Allen’s mohair creatures are tediously assembled with masterful hand stitching and given a mischievous grimace.
KERRY SCHMIDT:
Felted oddities of the ghoulish persuasion come to life by the hands of California based artist, Kerry Schmidt. The eye-popping characters in Schmidt’s arsenal include hard-nosed crows, snarling French Bulldogs, grinning bats and a few vegetables with an attitude. Her work has been featured in multiple magazines and collected far and wide.
ANTHONY PACK:
Anthony Pack’s multimedia upcycled assemblages round off this Halloween Boo-tique quartet. His famous suited devils made of wood scraps and book covers have a wide appeal. It is common for his creatures to wear a startled expression across their mug. Last year he included Frankenstein and his bride, as well as a spot on Edgar Allen Poe.
JANE THEIS:
As a self-professed Moon Child, Jane Theis feels the freest creating under the light of a full moon. Her use of color blocking paired with her wry sense of humor yield high impact conversation pieces. Often painting on bargain bin record sleeves, Jane will use the subject matter as a jumping off point for her laugh out loud oddities.
